Recycling IPA with Distillation
Completely remove resin from IPA
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) can be partially recycyled using sunlight and manual filtration. A distiller can be used to purify filtered IPA or force contaminated water/IPA to evaporate.
Key Information:
• Distilling solvents like IPA should be performed outside away from flammable materials, fire extinguishers should be on hand, and the distiller should not be left unattended.
• It is recommended to pick up a distiller with a temperature controller in order to operate the unit just above the boiling point of IPA, which is 82.6°C (180.7°F).
• The majority of IPA can be recovered, resulting in substantial cost savings.

Affordable Respiratory Protection
Half-Mask Cartridge Respirators provide protection against particulates and VOCs.
Key Information:
• These combo cartridges contain P100 HEPA material for protection during sanding, painting, and any other actitivies that generate dust.
• They also contain Activated Carbon that will adsorb/capture VOCs released from resin, epoxy, paint, clear coats, and solvents.
• The 60926 cartridge provides the widest range of protection, 60923 is next but availability varies, and 60921 is widely avaliable while being slightly cheaper.

Toasty Resin During Winter
A Ceramic Air Heater provides an affordable uniform temperature for your resin printer.
Key Information:
• Most resins require a temperature of 20-30°C. Check manufacturer recommendations for every resin.
• A 500 W heater in an enclosure is sufficient for outdoor temperatures as low as -35°C.
• A temperature controller is required to prevent overheating.

Chemical Sink & Tank
Streamline Post-Processing
A utility sink can be used to clean resin prints only if it drains into a chemical holding tank.
Key Information:
• Contaminated water, solvents, and resin should never be poured down a municipal or septic tank drain.
• Using a 1,000 W heater, it is possible to evaporate 3 gallons of water per day at an electricity cost of $1 per gallon.
• A P-Trap, like the one below, can be unscrewed. This allows you to remove resin buildup that accumalates.
• Be aware of chemical compatability. The sink is polyproylene and the p-trap is ABS, which means chemicals like acetone are off-limits.

Safety glasses, chemical aprons/smocks, and chemical coveralls are great for protecting your skin, eyeballs, and clothing.
Key Information:
• Safety glasses are recommended for eye protection. Prescription glasses and the headcover from a supplied air respirator will also work.

Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) can be partially recycyled using sunlight and manual filtration. A distiller can be used to purify filtered IPA or force contaminated water/IPA to evaporate.

• Distilling solvents like IPA should be performed outside away from flammable materials, fire extinguishers should be on hand, and the distiller should not be left unattended.
